Soft Body and Deformable Object In Computer Graphics

چکیده

There are different uses of soft body in computer graphics and digital entertainment. They are involved in many effects such as fracturing, tearing, cutting. Those objects can have a rest position (in case of blobby effect, cloth) or without rest position (in case of plasticy). The main difference between rigid and soft bodies is the fact soft bodies can change their shapes during the simulation and by squeezing or tearing they loses energy. By consequence the collision response are affected. It exists plenty of different techniques to simulate soft body. We can split those algorithms into two main categories : mesh based methods (FEM / Spring mass) and mesh free methods (Implicit surfaces / Point based / Meshless / SPH).

Deformable object animation using reduced optimal control Citation

Keyframe animation is a common technique to generate animations of deformable characters and other soft bodies. With spline interpolation, however, it can be difficult to achieve secondary motion effects such as plausible dynamics when there are thousands of degrees of freedom to animate. Physical methods can provide more realism with less user effort, but it is challenging to apply them to qui...

Line-Triangle Test for Collision Detection and Response in Soft Bodies

Soft-body models are common in games to simulate cloth or elastic objects. To realistically simulate soft-body objects, collision detection and response is required. In addition, soft-body models must re-arrange their internal structure to react to the collision. This paper presents a new collision detection and response algorithm which can simulate a variety of soft-body material behaviors ran...

Biomedical Paper Deformable Modeling of Facial Tissue for Craniofacial Surgery Simulation

While deformable object modeling has been studied by computer graphics specialists for more than two decades, only a few applications in the field of surgical simulation have been developed which provide both real-time and physically realistic modeling of complex, nonlinear tissue deformations. Particularly in craniofacial surgery, the prediction of soft-tissue changes—which result from alterat...

Towards Realistic Soft Tissue Modeling in Medical Simulation

Most of today's medical simulation systems are based on geometric representations of anatomical structures that take no account of their physical nature. Representing physical phenomena and, more speci cally the realistic modeling of soft tissue will not only improve current medical simulation systems but will considerably enlarge the set of applications and the credibility of medical simulatio...

Using Linked Volumes to Model Object Collisions

| In Volume Graphics, objects are represented by arrays or clusters of sampled 3D data. A volumetric object representation is necessary in computer modeling whenever interior structure a ects an object's behavior or appearance. However, existing volumetric representations are not su cient for modeling the behaviors expected in applications such as surgical simulation, where interactions between...
